365 Days of Happiness Book Review

Audrey Hepburn once said “I believe that Happy Girls are the Prettiest Girls”.  It’s so true, right?  Whatever your mindset, happy or sad, it’s written all over your face.  We can put on the best makeup money can buy but the look isn’t complete without a smile.  One of my goals this year was to maintain a positive mindset, to enjoy the moments and to find happiness and gratitude in each and every day.  I started a gratitude journal on January 1st and have been writing down something I’m grateful for every day.  It’s been much easier than I thought, there are SO many things to be grateful for!

When Jacqueline Pirtle reached out to me and offered to send me a copy of her Bestselling Book, 365 Days of Happiness: Because Happiness is a Piece of Cake, I knew it would be a perfect companion for my gratitude journal!  When the book arrived, included was a book marker with a hand written note from Jacqueline.  In today’s culture of email, social media and text messages, it was nice to see that personal touch.  Call me old school, but there’s something about a hand written note that just makes me “Happy“!

Author, Jacqueline Pirtle on Happiness, ” Happiness is a live moment to moment kind of feeling”.

What is 365 Days of Happiness?

” Happiness is a live moment to moment kind of feeling.  It is an exercise in mindfulness that shows up in many different ways.  Happiness is born when you choose it, commit to it, and when you want to learn how to BE it.”  ~ Jacqueline Pirtle

365 Days of Happiness is a step by step guide to being happy.  This book starts on Day 1 and ends on Day 365.  It is meant to be read once per day.  Each daily lesson provides a 1-2 page story on how to find happiness, joy and gratitude in everyday life.  Jacqueline includes actionable daily tips and inspiration to help you pay more attention to things to improve your day and choose happiness.

The one thing that stood out to me throughout the book was the fact that we must CHOOSE happiness.  The universe presents us with opportunities for happiness every single day.  If we are mindful and living in the moment, it’s much easier to recognize the things that make us happy.  Each passage stirs some kind of emotion, really makes you think and leads you in the direction of something that can make you happy.

Although there were many, here are a few of my favorite passages from the Book.

Day 21 in which Jacqueline writes about Following your Heart..

“Follow your heart! It always knows!”  She goes on to say that “Asking your heart produces unquestionable clarity of what you really want and love.  It nourishes your passion to feel good and be truthful to yourself.  It enriches your being as a person, partner, parent, friend, boss and light-love creator”.  Once you’ve heard your heart answer, don’t over-think”.

And Day 187 where she describes how to feed your body with a water energy cocktail.

“By adding ingredients that match your energetic needs to water, you will create your own unique “water energy cocktail” that is filled with “high for life” energy; all customized to your needs.”  She even includes a list of ingredients to add to your water to produce the energy you need.

365 Days of Happiness Book
One of my favorites from 365 Days of Happiness is Day 187 where Jacqueline describes how to feed your body with a water energy cocktail.

On Day 81 Jacqueline encourages you to “Gain Clarity with a Yes or No Day”.

“That is a day where no “maybe”, no “probably”, no “perhaps” and certainly no “I don’t know” has any space to even exist.  Every choice, question and decision you get to make in that day choose to answer from deep within you with a YES or NO.  If you can’t clearly say “YES”, then it’s naturally a “NO”.

Each day there is something to think about, a lesson to be learned and suggestions of actual things that you can do to be mindful and choose happiness.  And you can easily read this book in just a few minutes a day.  Although I read the book much faster for the purpose of this Review, I’ve already started reading it again in the once a day format.  I keep it on my nightstand and read it first thing in the morning.  It’s the perfect way to set the mood and mindset for the dayIf you could use a bit of encouragement to move you in the direction of happiness, check out this book.  I think you’ll love it as much as I do!

  5. This sounds like a great book from what you’ve shared, I like the idea that if it isn’t a definite “yes” then it’s a no. Amazing how freeing “no” can be…and that makes me happy:)

  6. Hi, Susie – What made me nod my head while reading this post was “you must CHOOSE happiness.” It requires focusing on our thoughts to be sure they are going in a positive direction. That takes practice. It also takes appreciation and gratitude every day just as you said. And it takes an open heart filled with love. This book sounds so inspirational and fun.
