Over 40 Beauty Tips

Is it me, or are Women Over 50 having a moment right now?  For the first time ever, women in their 40’s, 50’s, 60’s & 70’s are getting BETTER and more beautiful as they age.  Think Nicole Kidman, jLo, Helen Mirren and Maye Musk (yes, that’s Tesla Founder Elon Musk’s Mom!) who at age 71 is one of the new faces of Covergirl!  To quote the old cliche’, this “ain’t your grandma’s midlife” (or your mom’s either).  This generation of women are facing midlife like they own it and they are changing the narrative.

Since I started my Blog a few years ago, I’ve connected with some wonderful, talented, smart and beautiful (inside and out) Bloggers.  I thought it would be a fun idea to ask a few of them to share their Top Over 40 Beauty Tips.  How do they maintain that ageless beauty?

I’m excited to share their Beauty Tips with you today.  I encourage you to visit their Blogs and follow along with them on Instagram.  You won’t be disappointed as these ladies deliver with a daily dose of inspiration in everything from beauty, fashion and lifestyle to travel, fitness and health!  Ready for some fabulous over 40 beauty tips?  Let’s get to it.  I don’t know about you, but I’m taking notes!

Christina Daggett, The Traveling Diva Life

My beauty secret for staying young is my perpetual travel lifestyle.  Since retiring and leaving the States, about 10 years ago, in addition to working out at a gym 4 times a week, we walk everywhere, since we no longer own a vehicle.  We have also developed better eating habits since we don’t rely on the instant processed foods that we relied on so much, when we were working crazy schedules in the States.  Mostly everywhere in Europe there are fresh food and vegetable markets available to buy our groceries.”

“After the age of 40 (I’m 52) we start to see those bags and dark circles under our eyes.  I find that a cool wash cloth over my eyes each morning helps as well as a really good eye cream dedicated to puffy eyes and bags.  Use twice a day and you will see a big difference in just a few days!”

“I believe in retinol.  I started using over-the-counter retinol cream at night when I was in my late 30’s, and I noticed a difference in my skin immediately.  It turned my skin around.  I credit retinol with helping to brighten my complexion and to minimize fine lines.  I think it slows the hands of time a bit.  Now at almost 50, I’m thinking it might be time for a stronger formula, maybe a prescription.  I recommend anyone in her (or his) 30’s start adding retinol to your skincare routine.  I’m glad I did!”

Invest in your skin!  Find a good esthetician and make facials a regular part of your skincare routine.  I had my first facial on my 40th birthday (15 years ago) and have gotten them every month since then.  It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself.”

“Personally, I’m lazy when it comes to beauty.  I am all for healthy ingredients and ease.  Anything that takes more than 10 minutes out of my day is not for me.  That includes the time it might take to research ingredients too.  Don’t waste your money on beauty products, make your own instead using Essentials Oils.  Here’s a DIY recipe that I created and use from head to toe, I call it FKN Heavenly Body Oil.

Here’s what you need:

A glass bottle with a dropper or pump, fill with organic Avocado oil and add the following Essential oils:
10-15 drops of Frankincense
10 drops of Myrrh
10 drops of Clary Sage
5 drops of Bergamot

“I use a few drops of Rosehip oil as a nighttime moisturizer. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave any residue.  My chin area is prone to break outs and sometimes nighttime moisturizers are too heavy.  Rose hip oil is considered a “dry” oil and doesn’t block pores, leaving my skin hydrated and super soft.  It is inexpensive and a little goes a long way!  Rosehip Oil is considered one of the best plant oil sources of Omega 3, Omega 6, Vitamins A, E and F.”

“The one beauty tip I would like to share with other women is colored powder used to cover overgrown roots.  I love Joan Rivers On-the-Go Great Hair Day & Great Brow Day Compact.  It’s easy to apply, does an excellent job at camouflaging both grey roots and thinning areas of hair.  The compact also has a coordinating powder for your brows.  I like to use both powders as eye shadow which is an added bonus. I love that this kit comes with all the brushes you need and a mirror. It’s the one beauty product I cannot live without!

“Drink at least a gallon of water a day!  The benefits of staying hydrated for your hair, nail and skin are amazing.  Your skin will be brighter, your hair shinier and your nails will be stronger.  And…it doesn’t cost you anything!”

Drink lots of water – at least eight, eight-ounce glasses a day;  Be yourself.  Don’t try to copy Tinseltown’s version of “beautiful.” Every woman has her own distinct, unique sense of style, taste and beauty.  Authentic beauty doesn’t depend on age, make-up, hair, dress size, style, or anything on the outside.  True beauty is internal. It manifests itself in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. True beauty grows with age as these internal qualities become more seasoned and mature.”

“I found a product about two years ago that works with everything on most body parts, Argan Oil. Yes, I am the person that watches QVC at 2 AM when I can’t sleep but let me explain. I could not imagine using oil on my face ever!  Hands, body, maybe and even then I was always more of a cream person.

A small bottle came in a sample pack from Sephora, I ran out of body cream one day and decided to try this instead. There was such a pretty glow to my skin that I repeated over the next few days.  I then decided to try just a drop on my jaw line thinking I would break out from oil on my face.  Not only didn’t I break out, my husband actually complimented my skin during dinner, exact question, “could you be pregnant again dear?”

From that moment on which was about two summers ago, I used it in addition to all my favorite products.  I have not given up or switched anything. I add it over my body cream, shoulders, elbows, neck area after a shower, works great on cuticles, nails, hands, feet and yes, even over my makeup.  On my face I do not rub it in as you would a cream, but dab it on working it in with my fingers anyplace I would use a highlighter on my face.  I even use this in my hair as a ‘finishing’ type product, it creates a a great shine and tames frizzys.

So again, this has not replaced anything, it just creates a glow that is so natural looking and healthy at the same time.  I know there are quite a few ‘oils’ on the market, I have only used the Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil, I have not felt the need to try any others.”

“I use castor oil on my eyebrows to help keep them moisturized and to encourage growth also. The oil contains ricinoleic acid and omega-6 fatty acids, which may help improve the health of hair.  I notice the difference if I stop using it.

It is probably best to do a patch test to make sure you are not allergic to it.  Clean eyebrows before you apply.  Use a cotton bud dipped in a little of the castor oil and rub over eyebrow.  Clean any residue in the morning.

I also use it intermittently on my eyelashes, but you have to be careful not to get it into your eyes. They look thicker and more lustrous. Again, I see the difference, if I stop using it.”

“Introducing Collagen to my daily routine has improved the look of my skin!  I am 48, so when my 22 year old daughter said “mom! Your skin looks amazing! What have you been doing?”, at first I didn’t realize it was the Collagen (I am using Sports Research brand Collagen Peptides unflavored) I replied to her with “well I am trying to stay consistent with my skin care routine?”

Then it dawned on me, I had personally consumed an entire tub of collagen, one scoop a day in my coffee!  That had to be it, so I shared that with her.  I do try to stay consistent with my skin care routine, morning and night (bonus tip!) but the collagen has made a big difference, my skin looks so healthy and fresher than it has in a long time.”

I’m so excited to try these Over 40 Beauty Tips!  I’ve already made a list!  Which ones are you adding to your list?  Do you have a Beauty Tip or Beauty Secret to share?  As always, I would love to hear from you in the comments below!  I thank you so much for stopping by and reading.
